Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our audio, our platform, and how to get involved.
Getting Started
Soundbooth Theater is an audio production company that creates immersive, unforgettable listening experiences. Founded by narrator and producer Jeff Hays, we specialize in multicast audiobooks and Cinematic Audio — stories brought to life with sound effects, music, and a full cast of voice actors.
We’re best known for our work in GameLit and LitRPG, but we produce great stories across a wide range of genres. You can browse our productions right here on this website, and listen to them on Soundbooth or Audible.
Want to try something first? The Soundbooth app offers many productions you can listen to for free — no strings attached.
You can listen on Soundbooth or Audible. Some titles are available on both platforms, while others may be exclusive to one. You can browse all available options on this website.
Soundbooth is an audiobook and audio drama platform where you can find Soundbooth Theater productions, along with work from other great publishers. It offers à la carte access — no subscriptions, no credit systems — so you can buy exactly what you want and listen your way.
Many productions are free to try, and you don’t even need an account to start listening.
Soundbooth was built to treat creators and publishers better. It offers higher royalties, full pricing control, and transparent analytics — so when you buy something through Soundbooth, more of your support goes directly to the people who made it.
Already a Listener?
If you previously purchased titles through the Soundbooth Theater website or the old SBT Direct app, those purchases should automatically transfer to your account on the new Soundbooth platform. Make sure you’re signed in with the same email address you used before. If something’s missing, feel free to contact us — we’re happy to help.
You can browse and purchase titles right here on the Soundbooth Theater website. Our productions are available on both Soundbooth and Audible, though not every title is offered on both platforms.
Where to buy:
- Buy on Soundbooth — listen directly in the Soundbooth app or on the web. A great way to support our team and access exclusive features.
- Buy on Audible — available through Amazon and Audible, for those who prefer that ecosystem.

Authors
We work on a royalty share basis with our authors, meaning there is no upfront cost to the author. The specific royalty share agreements are determined by sales of the eBook, audience reach, and quality.
Soundbooth Theater generally makes the determination of who will narrate a project based on who is available and who seems like the best fit for the material; but authors are welcome to let us know if there is a particular narrator or voice actor(s) with whom they are hoping to work.
Although we are best known for our work in GameLit/LitRPG and other Science Fiction and Fantasy subgenres, we are open to producing in most genres.
For a Classic Audiobook, the production window is generally 90 days. For more extensive productions — like our Cinematic Audio — the production time may vary, depending on the scope of the project; i.e., how large the cast is, how complex the sound design is, how much original music is included, etc.
Narrators/Team Members
Soundbooth Theater is not currently hiring, but we will accept resumes and/or demos to keep on file for when an opening becomes available.
Although there are currently no open roles, our production team consists of narrators/voice actors, audio engineers, sound designers, and more.
On the business side, we work with contractors for many of our corporate functions — such as finance and legal. Our internal business team consists of Marketing & Communications, Technology, and Operations professionals.
You will need a microphone, recording software, and sometimes an audio interface to convert audio to digital, depending on your recording setup. For a more complete guide on this subject, please check out the following document, which was created by our Director of Sound, Ahmed Mahmoud.
